Rhyming

I came across an interesting post today about rhyming. I've been using it in my classroom very effectively to help teaching reading. It's is a widely proven fact that rhyming helps increase children's ability to decode words. Here at Michelle's Special Education blog she lists many different resources for teaching and reinforcing the concept of rhyming.

  1. I agree about the benefits of teaching rhyming. Not only does it improve students ability to decode but it improves their ability to encode. They are also processing more efficiently...in chunks instead of in just individual letters and sounds. A few years back in the IRA journal, there was an article about why teaching rhyming/word families was so important for kids.
