Ways to Use Flip Cameras in the Classroom

Flip video cameras are cheap, easy to use, and taking education by storm. There are many great ways to use a Flip in the classroom. I myself have used them to create videos of the students doing simple tasks, and used as a video modeling tool. Take a look here at one persons ways to use Flip cameras in the classroom.

  1. I have used my Flip for over a year. So great to use in IEP meetings for documentation. Not to mention sending happy messages to parents of how great their kids are. We forget sometimes to share happy news...

  2. I've been starting to do the same thing Lori. It's a great way to show therapists, parents, admin what my kids are doing, and they don't even have to be in the room! Such an easy to use tool!

  3. I have purchased roughly four of them. I cannot get them to play nice with Windows Movie Maker. Any ideas?

  4. sorry, no I don't. I've only used them with Mac's and had absolutely no problems. What specifically is happening? If you email me directly I might be able to offer more assistance. At the top of my page you can email me from the ReTaggr graphic.

  5. Movie Maker doesn't work with mp4 movies which is what Flip video is. Conversion is needed. If you have the older smooth white Flips, you can load to Movie Maker directly. The Ultras (black suede-like)have to be converted from mp4 to avi or wmv. I bought a cheap converter Aimersoft to use in my classroom (aimersoft.com)

  6. Interesting, to be honest I"m using a Mac and I directly import into iMovie, have had absolutely no problem with it. I guess I had no idea that there was a conversion process, seems kinda silly since they are so cheap, I would have thought that they would be easy to load onto a computer. Thanks for your help!

  7. You have to download Flipshare which is already installed on your camera when you connect it and then it will work
there is also a mac version on the camera
but i prefer to use Perian
that way it does not set up separate MYflipcam areas
    HTH
