AAC & Young Children

So how young is too young for an AAC device? I don't know if I have the answer to that question, but there is more research being done all the time. Here at No Limits to Learning. Some of the questions raised are very interesting:

This raises some questions in my mind that we need to ask ourselves: At what age should we start a child on AAC? What prerequisite skills should be in place-or-do they need to be there at all before a device is introduced? How do we shift our thinking to get AAC in the hands of early learners with communication disorders as early as possible?


What age should we be getting students into AT? It's usually pretty obvious at an early age what students would benefit from AT, but should we start off easy then work up to dynamic display. Again I don't have any answers, but find the research very compelling. Here's a link to the research:
