Prox Talker

Here's an interesting new device. It's called the Prox Talker.

The Prox Talker is basically a talking PECS book. The device has room for 5 symbols on it. There is very little programming because the symbols have a RFID chip in it and when it gets close to a spot it sends the words. There are thousands of words already programmed. It also includes an easy way to record custom pictures. The Prox Talker comes with 200 symbols when you purchase it.

At this time the website lists the production date at Fall 2008. There are links to sign up for pre-production units.

This sounds like a very interesting idea for students who already use PECS, this adds a new functionality and a voice for them.
